Don't treat your calendar like a plan, treat it like a journal.
A lot of people try to use calendars to plan out their lives to perfection. If you're like me, this has never really worked. I think this is because I am too optimistic about "future-me".
Instead, I use my giant calendar to simply log what I do on any given day. So every morning, when I wake up, I am tasked with filling up an empty box with today's date on it. I usually have a general idea of what I want to do, but I never fill it out until the day is done.
The real power of this comes into play as I progress through the month. As the month grinds on and I become increasingly tired, some days are extremely difficult to find motivation to get something done.

But then, I look up at my calendar and I think to myself, "I don't want today's box to be empty." I don't want to look up at my calendar and see an ugly empty spot. I don't want to break the chain.
It's that little moment that usually gives me the little push I need to just get something done. As many of us know, once you get the ball rolling you usually have energy to get more than just one thing done.
Then at the end of the month, you have this nice antique. A snapshot of the beautiful month you just experienced. You get to tell yourself, "everyday meant something".
Then you take a picture, erase the board & start over.
